P.D. Bruza, and Th.P. van der Weide. Assessing the Quality of Hypertext Views. In: ACM SIGIR FORUM (Refereed Section), Nr: 3, Vol: 24, Pages: 6-25, 1990.

In this article the problem of assessing the quality of hypertext views is considered. This is done in terms of a formal model of hypertext in which the view is a central aspect. The objects in a view are described in terms of so called index expressions which are a powerful object characterization mechanism. These characterizations are manipulated by a calculus, which allows quantification of notions such as cohesion and relevance. These latter are useful criteria for judging the quality of a view.

P.D. Bruza, and Th.P. van der Weide. Two Level Hypermedia - An Improved Architecture for Hypertext. In: Proceedings of the Data Base and Expert System Applications Conference (DEXA 90), Vienna, Austria, EU, Berlin, Germany, EU, Edited by: A.M. Tjoa, and R.R. Wagner. Pages: 76-83, Springer, 1990, ISBN 3211822348.

In this article we present the Two Level Hypermedia architecture. Both levels of this architecture are detailed in the framework of a conceptual model of hypermedia. A central aspect of this model is the notion of a view. The concept of a hyperindex is introduced, which is a novel approach to organizing indexing information relevant for hypermedia. In conjunction with the hyperindex, the notion of Query by Navigation (QBN) is introduced.

In this article we introduce the concept of Two Level Hypermedia. We describe a conceptual model for Hypermedia, and focus especially on the concept of a view. We introduce the concept of a power index expression as a structured characterization mechanism. Next we describe a characterization calculus, starting from the characterizations of fragments. This provides us with a means of comparing Hypermedia objects. Views are then analysed on the basis of the notion of a sequence. We introduce properties such as redundancy and irrelevance with which views can be judged.
